Stop reacting to true crime. Start analyzing it.

Most people watch a documentary and come away with an opinion. Forensic psychologists come away with questions: What's the actual evidence? What's narrative? What would I need to see before I'd put my name on a conclusion? In my work, conclusions end up in front of a judge. That tends to sharpen your reasoning.

Think Like a Forensic Psychologist is the case analysis system I use in real forensic evaluations, adapted for people outside the field. No jargon you don't need, no shortcuts that would embarrass me in court.

What you'll learn

  • How to separate evidence from emotional storytelling (documentaries are edited for a reason)
  • The cognitive biases that pull investigators, juries, and viewers toward the wrong conclusion, and how to catch them in yourself
  • How to judge whether a confession is reliable, and why "he confessed" settles less than people think
  • A step-by-step method for working through any case and reaching a conclusion you can defend

Who this is for

  • True crime fans who want to look past the story a documentary is selling
  • Psychology and criminology students curious about what forensic work actually involves
  • Anyone considering a career in forensic psychology who wants to see the reasoning before committing to the degree
  • Writers and podcasters who want their case analysis to hold up to scrutiny

Not for: anyone looking for gore, speculation, or a verdict on their favorite suspect. You won't find those here.

What's included (6 chapters, 11 lessons)

  • Welcome lesson + Guidebook: the foundation of the forensic mindset
  • 5 professional frameworks: Forensic Mindset Checklist, Behavior Analysis, Confession Evaluation, Forensic Evaluation Tracker, and Full Case Analysis Template
  • Practice case, Henry Lee Lucas: apply the frameworks to one of the most debated confession cases in American history
  • My Henry Lee Lucas analysis: check your reasoning against mine, step by step
  • Training slides: visual summaries of each concept
  • Documentary Night Analysis Guide: use the system the next time you press play

About your instructor

I'm Dr. Aubree Harrington, a licensed psychologist in Georgia and Virginia. I've completed more than 150 court-ordered forensic evaluations, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and violence risk, and I've testified as an expert in state court. I also train forensic psychology fellows in the psychiatry and law program at a prestigious university. I built this course because I kept watching real cases get misunderstood online, and the fix isn't more opinions. It's better reasoning.

A note on ethics

This course is educational. It uses publicly available case information only, and nothing in it is a forensic opinion about any specific person. A real forensic opinion requires a court order, records, and a face-to-face evaluation. A documentary provides none of those.
